Edit: Thanks everyone for their comments, I'm grateful for this DD. :)

I referenced my shoulder and ear in the mirror. Closeup at 30%

I drew this last month and suddenly felt the urge to post this tonight. It's much different from anything else I've done and I like it because of that.

The person depicted is purposely androgynous.

Everyone subconsciously accepts the constant misinformation spread in our lives. We may criticize or doubt these truths but we still breathe them.

And then one day we realize these lies for what they are and it's shocking, like a betrayal, but the truth is that they've always been embedded in our minds.

Time: About 11 hours
Tools: Photoshop CS3 with Intuos tablet and ~zhuzhu's brushes.

If I haven't been replying to you I am very sorry. I'm not purposely snubbing you, I just have personal issues that I'm dealing with. May be discussed in my journal.

Enjoy, and as always I can learn from criticism.

Daily Deviation

Given 2011-11-04
Misinformation by *Akanei-Rin is so strong and tragic at the same time. The concept is shocking and brutal, but really touching. Amazing style and delicious palette. ( Suggested by `phoenixleo and Featured by `Atramina )

I love this concept and vision oh so very much! It's very relatable and very close to the heart... even on a personal level for me. It's very original and really brings you to a sort of deep thought about the concept and it leaves impact that can't be shaken off.

I absolutely love that you made the character androgynous, but it's a tad leaning towards male. I would have suggested giving the character more feminine facial features, and maybe if you put clothing on the character / cut the chest off it would have been absolutely genderless.

The details are absolutely great. It took me a long time to notice the electrocardiography-ish pattern that seems as though it's coming out of the eyes.

One thing that REALLY irked me would be the way the blood looks. It's very unrealistic and rather impossible... I'm not going to get into details as it's very nit picky things, but what really irked me was the back. Blood doesn't explode like a gas out of the head...

Overall, I adore this piece very much and I hope you continue to bring more fantastic pieces like this forward.

Oh, I almost forgot... the hair is absolutely PERFECT. Never seen anything like it before...

The concept is an interesting one, and one Akanei-Rin has stunningly brought to life :D

For starters, observation of the human form - top marks.

The subtle range of colours blended together to form the skin and cast shadows is beautifully done; it looks almost pearlescent, like the reflective, silvery inside of an oyster shell.

The expression on the face is well executed. Subtle, but not understated, and you can really feel the shock and pain of the character in the very moment they realise that all their expectations and beliefs have been shattered. Expressions are always one of the trickier parts to get right - especially in realism - and you've done a really good job on this.

I adore the colourful, air floatiness of the 'hair', although I'm curious as to what it's meant to represent/why it's like that. But I guess that's up to the viewers' interpretation, eh? Either way, it provides a strong contrast to the violent shock of the bloody arrow in the person's head and the blip by the eye, making it really feel like a moment stopped in time. Actually, the hair reminds me of a jellyfish, just gently puffing and wafting in the pull of the water.

All in all, a superb piece.
